BMW M5 this new face lifting about this car.
Reintroduced last year, BMW claims the rear-wheel-drive M5 has “supercar handling” — though it’s also promoted for “outstanding everyday driving qualities.” When equipped with a seven-speed sequential manual transmission, the M5 can accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and can reach 120 mph in 15 seconds. The sequential manual transmission incorporates Drivelogic, which offers 11 gear-change options.Variable M differential locking is installed to deliver power to the wheel with the most traction, even in extreme conditions. The M-calibrated Dynamic Stability Control system has two driving programs available, and can also be deactivated. With a braking system adapted from the auto racing world, the M5 can brake from 62 mph to a standstill in less than 120 feet.

Sport sedan purists will be pleased to hear that the 2007 M5 can have a conventional six-speed manual transmission. A tire pressure monitoring system is standard, and the M5’s navigation system gains real-time traffic information. Soft-close doors are available.

Exterior
The M5 has a unique front fascia to distinguish it from other 5 Series sedans; the side sills are modified and the wheel arches are more prominent. Standard wheels measure 19 inches in diameter and hold Z-rated performance tires. The sedan has “M” gills in the front fenders, quad tailpipes and special rocker panels with a sharp accent line.

Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights with adaptive lighting are standard. The M5’s specially calibrated aluminum suspension adjusts to driving conditions and operates with Electronic Damping Control, which offers three modes: comfort, normal and sport. Quickened power steering has two levels of power assistance.

Interior
Heated M Sport front seats with 16-way power adjustment for the driver are installed in the Merino leather interior. MDrive lets the driver select preferred performance and handling settings for instant recall later. Brushed-aluminum interior trim is standard, but two types of wood can be specified instead. Park Distance Control, a navigation system and a Logic7 premium sound system are standard. A head-up display is optional.

Under the Hood

The M5’s 5.0-liter V-10 — which has double-VANOS variable valve timing — generates 500 horsepower and 383 pounds-feet of torque. The V-10 drives a seven-speed sequential manual transmission with steering-wheel paddles or a conventional six-speed manual gearbox.

Safety

All-disc antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags and Dynamic Stability Control are standard. Rear-seat side-impact airbags are optional.

honda_element_sc_2007-5-copy.jpg

You’ll first imagine yourself driving it, of course, and then, you’ll handpick certain people and be amused with how they would look in it (it’s fantasy projection or vicarious fantasy, something like that ”

However, before you are able to purchase one, you’ll probably seek out a friend, or friend of a friend, who already does, so you can play “covet the Element.” When you do find this acquaintance who has the title to this somewhat gas efficient, EPA pleasing, multiple-use, small SUV, expect them to be both shocked and bothered that you need them to spend their entire Saturday morning letting you climb into it, arrange the seats back and forth into their various, space-making configurations, run your fingers along the shiny color-matched panel trims, and read various excerpts from the driver’s manual to you. If they have the camping accessories, like the tailgate cabana, they may be irritated that it’s the middle of winter, yet you still insist that they set all of them up anyway, including the spare tire cover which converts into a card table if you have the table leg kit. Maybe they’ll even give you a ride around in it and let you bungee various items onto their roof rack.

Then, you buy one. It’s a sweet, Fiji Blue Pearl, or maybe the Sunset Orange Pearl Element, which you proudly drive down the highway or main street. You turn heads every time. Not in a meat-market manner, but in a way that asks, “what kind of person drives one of those?” Sure, sometimes that question has the negative edge, because it also asks and says, “what a weird looking… well, what is it anyway?” A steady amount of the population also muses, “I bet that cult car looks cool inside.” With your head held high, you can say, “Yes, it does. It is very cool inside.”

honda_element_sc_2007-2-copy.jpg

Besides being a unique (understatement) vehicle with lots of features and accessories, the beauty of the Honda Element is that late-twenties and early-thirties parents don’t have to wear camouflage outfits and face masks when they return to their car at the local mall because they’re petrified that someone they know, or even don’t, will find out that they broke down at bought one. What this really means is that the Element is the cure for the common minivan. Sure, they keep making the minivan cooler, and maybe one day your friends without children will stop laughing at you if you get one, but for now, everyone remembers everyone’s blood vows to never buy one. The proud twenty-year-old inside all of us still believes that the purchase of a minivan, no matter how convenient for families, is the death marked curtain falling on their youth. Perhaps studies will find that not only does the Element give an option out of buying the cursed minivan, but that it is also preventive medicine for the mid-life crisis.

1999 Fiat Seicento – Sporting – Tuning

The Fiat Seicento is a city car produced by the Italian company Fiat, introduced in late 1997 as a replacement for the Fiat Cinquecento. The Seicento did not differ much from its predecessor, retaining the same engines, chassis and general dimensions, although it did gain a minor 9 cm in length (total length of 3.34 m). The design was similar too, in which the Seicento kept the same 3-door hatchback body, instead of the 5-door mini MPV look seen on many Korean city cars. Like its predecessors, the Cinquecento and Polski Fiat 126, the Seicento is built in Fiat’s factory in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. From 1998 to April 2004, 1.1 million examples of the Seicento had been produced.

The Seicento name was intended to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fiat 600, Seicento being the Italian word for this number.

EuroNCAP performance

In EuroNCAP crash tests, the Fiat Seicento was only awarded a 1.5 star rating, and fractionally beat the worst contenders in the history of EuroNCAP, namely the Rover 100 and the original Chrysler Voyager MPV .[3] This is not so surprising, as the car has an extremely short front-end and keeps many components from its predecessor, originally conceived in 1991.

In comparison, another small car, the Smart Fortwo (which has a shorter front end), earned three stars in the crash test.

Versions
Trims/Equipment

Fiat Seicento Sporting with optional full length electric canvas hood.

At launch, the Seicento was available with three trim levels; a basic ‘S’ with black bumpers and spartan equipment and initially the 899 cc engine; an ‘SX’ model, a slight upgrade over the ‘S’ with colour coded bumpers, electric windows, central locking and a sunroof – which was also available as a ‘Citymatic’ with a clutchless manual gearchange – and a ‘Sporting‘ with the larger FIRE engine mated to a close-ratio gearbox, and anti-roll bars added. Cosmetically, this version gained 14″ alloy wheels, sports seats and bodykit with optional Abarth 14″ wheels and side skirts also available.

In 1999, the FIRE engine was used in the special ‘Suite’ version, which came with air-conditioning. A special edition ‘Soleil’ model was available in some markets, which was based on the ‘SX’ model but came with a full-length electrically-folding fabric roof.

After the 2001 update, all cars were given clear indicator lenses, with the Sporting model getting a restyled bodykit. Cars built from this period also come with an anti-lock braking system. A ‘Michael Schumacher’ edition of the Sporting, with the Abarth styling kit, was also launched at this time to celebrate the Ferrari driver’s Formula 1 success.

In 2004 the model was withdrawn from the UK market and production of right hand drive models ceased. The left hand drive model was facelifted gaining a new shape of wheel rims and the introduction of the new Fiat logo in the rear.

Then, in 2005 the name seicento was replaced by 500 (in occasion of the 50 anniversary of the glorious first edition, in 1955) together with some changes in the front and in versions dotations: now the name Fiat is written on the seats. The new versions now are named “Class” and “50 annivesary”, thus reminding the strict relationship between this model and the previous one.

The Seicento is available with two engines: the old 899 cc OHV (29 kW / 40 hp) engine used in early base S and SX models (which was removed from West European markets due to emissions regulations), and the 1108 cc FIRE (40 kW / 54 hp and used in the Sporting version since launch), was fitted universally with multi-point fuel injection from 2001, replacing the old pushrod units. There was also a version with an electric engine (30 kW / 41 hp).

Tuning

German tuner Novitec created a special edition of the Fiat Seicento, adding a turbocharger and six-speed gearbox to the little car. The German tuner is able to extract 101 hp (74 kW) from the 1242 cc FIRE engine.

Future replacement

No official replacement plans are known at the moment. The Seicento will continue to be produced alongside the Fiat Nuova 500, which was officially presented to the press in July 2007.

2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid

We don’t usually report on the shenanigans of the show-biz glitterati, but that doesn’t mean we don’t participate in them. Such was the case when we popped our heads into GM’s annual pre-Oscar fashion show/benefit/star brawl “Ten” event in Hollywood, which involves film, TV and music stars, donated designer duds, a concert, and a relatively impressive smattering of the General’s concept, production, and custom cars. We go because it’s one of those rare instances where a carmaker throws a lavish party for Hollywood influencers that isn’t completely cheesy. Still, it isn’t exactly full of automotive news.

So imagine our surprise when Oscar nominee (later to become Oscar winner) Jennifer Hudson strolled down the runway followed by Hollywood’s favorite guilty pleasure, the Cadillac Escalade, this time wearing discreet little “Hybrid” badges on the doors and tailgate. Then we remembered last year’s Detroit auto show, when GM showed us the upcoming 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, and told us that it intended to produce a hybrid Cadillac Escalade as well. However, we don’t usually believe these kinds of things until we see them. And so there it was at Ten, which marks the first time GM has publicly shown the big ‘brid to the public.
Powertrain Shared with Tahoe and Yukon Hybrids

Like the Tahoe and Yukon gas-electrics, the Escalade hybrid will be a two-mode hybrid that supplements GM’s venerable 6.0-liter V-8 with power from two electric motors. At low speeds, the vehicle can run on batteries only, the engine only, or a combination of both. At higher speeds, another operating mode engages the electric motors and the cylinder deactivation system for more efficient operation. GM claims that harmful emissions will drop significantly, and fuel economy will be boosted by some 25 percent compared with utes equipped with the 5.3-liter V-8. The fuel-economy disparity with the standard Escalade, which comes with the gluttonous 403-hp, 6.2-liter V-8, should be even more significant.

Styling Changes

The vehicle we saw was basically a working prototype that looked pretty much identical to the standard Escalade. We’re told, however, that some changes will be made to the grille and front bumper to create a distinction between the hybrid and the more hedonistic standard model. After all, what’s the point of driving a hybrid in Hollywood if you can’t show the thing off? No changes are expected for the interior, however—the wood is already fake.

The Escalade hybrid is expected to go on sale in April or May of 2008 as a 2009 model, but you can bet your spirulina-infused wheat-grass protein shake that several dozen preproduction vehicles will be available in early March to shuttle the superstars up and down L.A.’s busy boulevards during Oscar week 2008.

Ironic isn’t it; a 7,500 pound (about 3,400 kg) “hybrid” beast with a 6.0-liter V8 engine. However, on the other hand, if the Escalade manages to deliver more than a 50-percent improvement in fuel economy in city driving compared to the standard models as GM promises, it’s better than not having it at all. Cadillac’s Hybrid Escalade is powered the same 2-Mode Hybrid system as both the Yukon and Tahoe hybrids.

The 2-Mode Hybrid system consists of an electrically variable transmission (EVT) and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS) working in concert with the standard 6.0L V8 gasoline engine. According to Cadillac, the Escalade Hybrid will go on sale in the US in the summer of 2008. -Details after the jump

PRESS RELEASE: Cadillac announced the world premiere of the Escalade Hybrid, the world’s first fuel-saving hybrid applied to a large luxury SUV. Powered by an innovative, fuel-saving 2-Mode Hybrid system, Escalade Hybrid will deliver more than a 50-percent improvement in fuel economy in city driving – all while delivering the same distinctive style, segment-leading features and full-size capability that have made the Escalade an icon.

“Escalade, already the sales and style leader among large luxury SUVs, now adds the desirability of a fuel-saving, technically advanced hybrid system,” said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. “The arrival of Escalade Hybrid means that consumers can now use less fossil fuel, reduce emissions and still enjoy the benefits of a full-size luxury SUV.”

The Hybrid goes on sale in the US in the summer of 2008 and is the newest example of Escalade’s technology leadership. The potential for sales of the Hybrid in Europe are currently being evaluated with a decision expected within six months.

“No other manufacturer offers a hybrid than can seat eight luxuriously while simultaneously carrying or trailering lots of cargo comfortably,” Taylor said. “And no hybrid delivers the dramatic presence that is synonymous with Escalade.”

Escalade Hybrid is available in 2WD and 4WD configurations. It delivers up to 6,000 pounds (2,722 kg) of usable towing capacity on 2WD models and 5,700 pounds (2,565 kg) on 4WD models. All of Escalade’s standard comfort and convenience features are included. This includes an eight-inch, touch-screen navigation system that displays performance readouts of the 2-Mode Hybrid system on the screen.

Escalade Hybrid extends Cadillac’s leadership in the large luxury SUV category. Escalade sales have grown in the face of changing sales trends and increased competition. In fact, Escalade sales increased 22 percent in September over year-ago sales. Other models in the Escalade lineup include the extended-length Escalade ESV and the versatile Escalade EXT luxury-utility truck. The Hybrid model is available with the standard Escalade body style.

Patented 2-Mode Hybrid technology

The Escalade’s 2-Mode Hybrid system allows it to return exceptional fuel economy in both city and highway while delivering the capabilities of a true luxury SUV. In city driving, this advanced hybrid power system enables Escalade to launch and drive low speeds on electricity alone. As additional power is demanded, the system blends output from the battery and gas engine smoothly.

GM’s patented 2-Mode Hybrid system consists of an advanced electrically variable transmission (EVT) and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS). These systems work in concert with the standard 6.0L V-8 Gen IV gasoline engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) and late-intake valve closing (LIVC) technology. AFM enables the V-8 engine to seamlessly shut off half of its cylinders when less power is needed, such as during highway cruising. This new hybrid system not only enables the Escalade Hybrid to drive low speeds on electricity alone, it also allows the 6.0L V-8 engine to operate in its more economical four-cylinder mode for longer periods.

The key to Escalade’s 2-Mode hybrid system is that the electric power used to propel the vehicle is generated by the hybrid system itself. When the brakes are applied or the vehicle is coasting, the electric motors within the hybrid system create electricity that is stored in the 300-volt battery. This stored energy is used to move the vehicle and the regenerative braking cycle is renewed.

The 2-Mode Hybrid system provides seamless, dependable power on demand in an efficient package. In fact, its electric motor is less than half the size of those in single-mode hybrid systems. This technology was developed and is still used in fleets of hybrid transit buses on the streets today in dozens of major North American cities. Scaled-down for use in full-size SUVs, the 2-Mode system delivers fuel savings where it is needed most – in large vehicles with high levels of capability. It is a core part of GM’s energy diversity efforts, which are centered on reducing dependence on petroleum, improving fuel economy, reducing emissions and minimizing the automobile’s impact on the environment.

Cadillac’s smooth and quiet power

-Acoustic details specific to the Hybrid model ensure it delivers the superior luxury that has been an Escalade hallmark since its inception. The details include:

-A new exhaust system and resonator specially tuned for the 6.0L LIVC engine’s Active Fuel Management operation. It ensures comfortable interior acoustics and a pleasant exhaust note during both V-4 and V-8 operation

-An electrically driven, 300-volt air conditioning compressor reduces vibration and allows the HVAC system to cool the passenger compartment even when the gasoline engine is shut off. It includes the standard tri-zone climate system

-An electrically driven, 42-volt variable-assist power steering reduces vibration and provides up to a 0.5-mpg fuel economy improvement by reducing parasitic losses common in belt-driven hydraulic systems

-The Energy Storage System cooling system’s internal fan is tuned to be quiet at low vehicle speeds, when the fan could more easily be heard by the occupants.

Escalade aesthetic

The Escalade Hybrid retains the qualities that have made it the leading large luxury SUV and a standard-bearer of Cadillac’s overall product renaissance. It is instantly identifiable as a Cadillac and incorporates styling cues from the landmark Sixteen concept vehicle, including a detailed signature grille, front fender vent ports and layers of chrome accents.

The Escalade’s warm and inviting interior features a premium layout. It is available in two colors, Ebony and Cashmere. Standard features include a distinctive instrument panel; gauges with white needles and blue light inlays with continuously lit, white-LED backlighting; Nuance leather-covered seats; leather-covered door trim and center console; and a power-assisted rear liftgate that opens and closes with the touch of a button.

Variations of today’s stock cars are different. It doesn’t mater if it’s an engine modification or styling, the result is still a change. It’s not a crime of course, We can look at tuning modifications as a sort of art. But we need to differentiate what is a tuning and what isn’t.

Because nowadays, we can meet a lot of people that decorate their car with some ballast and they think they have cool car. But the real tuning isn’t about randomly placed plastic accessories, but it’s about thinking. Every part has to be on its own place. Maybe that new shiny 19“ 10-spoked rims can be great on Toyota Supra, but your old VW Jetta isn’t suitable for that.volkswagen_golf_gti_2007-4-copy.jpg

The tuning is about rational changes – no chocolate-box art but something unique should be created. I think everybody knows a 5th generation VW Golf GTI – a strong, dynamic car with a great design.

But for somebody it isn’t enough. So we found its great brother on this year’s SEMA Auto Show – VW Golf R GTI.

Now it’s a 3-doors VW Golf 5 R GTI that is and will be the only in the world. The letter „R“ is used to approach to the top-model Golf R32 . I beg to inform you that they‘ve created an amazing and unique car. A fusion of great but not wild design with the perfect performance – that can’t be seen everyday. And remember that’s still VW Golf. Creators really enjoyed the creation of this baby. But let’s start from the beginning.

volkswagen_golf_gti_2007-5-copy.jpg
2007 Volkswagen Golf R-GTI
A first sight reveals a distinctive black paintwork combined with a “honeycomb“ vinyl. The honeycomb is the one of main characteristics of this modification. It’s right, that a black color hides interesting details, but in many cases it’s a symbol of sporting soul that wants to be hidden and surprise when nobody expects. And add tinted Windows and lots of carbon used on Golf’s chassis.

A salient feature of front part is its front bumper that is different from GTI‘s. Primarily thanks to a big central opening that is used for an air-intake to the engine. The opening is surrounded by a stylish red border and filled with a honeycomb grill. Two openings for an air-intake to brakes with integrated lights are situated at the sides of front bumper. A carbon diffuser (a carbon is used also in case of the front grill and hood) is mounted under the front bumper.

Very interesting element on a front mask (that creating unit with a big central opening in a front bumper) is nothing else than the “R” symbol with a checkered flag under the GTI logo.

volkswagen_golf_gti_2007-3-copy.jpg

golf r

It’s truth that designers could made bigger modifications on the exterior, but they knew that this isn’t the way of GTI. It’s not about an extreme exterior, but the image is most important – decent, but aggressive, silently waiting for the right moment. And this is the way of VW Golf 5 R GTI.

Volkswagen Golf 5 R GTI
No important changes were made on the side of Golf, but also the little ones reflect whole styling of car.

To be specific, we’re talking about door back mirrors (similar design as the vinyl’s structure) made of carbon, of course. I can’t understand why also doorsteps aren’t made of carbon as other parts, they’re quite discreet and designed in a honeycomb style.

volkswagen_golf_gti_2007-2-copy.jpg

A rear part is again decent but striking. The proof of designer’s inspiration by R32 is dark tail-lights and double exhaust tips in the middle of bumper. These tips remind me Jenkins three-wheel concept GX3. Also the rear bumper was modified for this version.

They added a carbon diffuser and the surrounding area is made again in a hexagonal style. New is also a “R“ logo on a trunk which is again made of carbon as well as a decent sporting spoiler.

Ford C-MAX 2011

Ford C-MAX Pictures

The Focus C-MAX was launched in 2003 to much acclaim. It gave rise to the larger S-MAX, a vehicle that has in turn influenced the new C-MAX.
With the advent of the new C-MAX, Ford decided to drop the ‘Focus’ name and make the car and the S-MAX a separate group of Multi Activity Vehicles or MAVs, at the same time taking the opportunity to give them a similar look.
The new C-MAX has a completely new front end in keeping with Ford of Europe’s ‘kinetic design’ philosophy, in simple terms that means that it should look as if it is moving even when it isn’t. I can’t think of any car that achieves that goal but the new C-MAX certainly has a more dynamic appearance than before.

2011 Ford Focus Review

Ford is redesigning its compact car with a renewed focus on “whole-earth” appeal--in more ways than one. International style, high-efficiency powertrains, and green-tech engineering should make it a strong competitor from Boston to Beijing. A full-electric version could prove popular too, especially if gas prices go through the roof again.
What We Know About the 2011 Ford Focus
We know it’s a bit early to be talking about the 2011 (or will it be 2012?) Ford Focus. But we also know that a full redesign of this compact car is already underway, and we can make some educated inferences about it based on recent announcements by Ford executives, competitors’ likely moves, and general industry trends.

2009 Ford Mustang Vehicle Overview

All Ford Mustangs are rear-wheel drive and come standard with a five-speed manual transmission. A five-speed automatic is optional on all versions except the manual-only Bullitt. The Mustang V6 is powered by a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 210 hp and 240 pound-feet of torque. Given this output, fuel economy is disappointing at 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined -- the same as Ford's 262-hp Flex SUV. The Mustang GT features a 4.6-liter V8 with 300 hp and 320-lb-ft output worthy of its muscle-car looks and heritage. With a manual transmission, the GT goes from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and clears the quarter-mile in 14.3 seconds. Its fuel economy is 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined.
Safety
Four-wheel disc brakes and front-seat side airbags are standard on all Mustangs. Antilock brakes and traction control are optional on the V6 models and standard on the GT. Neither stability control nor full-length head curtain airbags are available.
In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash tests, the 2009 Ford Mustang earned a perfect five stars for front-impact protection and side-impact protection of front passengers. The convertible got a five-star rating for rear side protection, while the coupe got four stars. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing, the Mustang scored "Acceptable" (the second highest of four ratings) in frontal-offset tests and "Good" (the highest rating) for side-impact tests.
Interior Design and Special Features
With its dual-hooded dash, three-spoke steering wheel and old-school gauges, the cabin of the 2009 Mustang gives more than a nod to the past. Yet this is not an outdated ergonomic mess – the controls are simple and the seats are comfortable, though they could use more lateral support for enthusiastic drivers. Both the Mustang coupe and the convertible offer seating for four, and average-size adults can sit in back with little problem. Trunk capacity is pretty good, with 12.3 cubic feet in the coupe and 9.7 in the convertible.
