2011 mazda rx8
Under the hood of the rear-wheel-drive 2011 mazda rx8, is the 1.3L rotary engine. Paired with the 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the engine produces 212 horsepower and redlines at 7,500 rpm. The 6-speed manual transmission increases that output to 232 horsepower, and the redline sits at an impressive 9,000 rpm. Both setups generate a limited 152 pound-feet of torque. Most tests put the RX-8 with the manual transmission at the 7-second range for 0-60 mph times. That's quick, but not quick enough for a sport car of this caliber at this price point.

he RX-8′s rotary powerplant is unlike any other. No pistons – and a super tiny 1.3 liters. A pair of rotors spin on a common crankshaft, and this reduction in rotating mass allows for a motorcycle-like operating range from 0-9,000 RPM. Peak power for manual-equipped versions is 232 hp; models equipped with the optional six-speed automatic are detuned a little to 212 hp, with redline cut back to 7,500 RPM.

Under the hood of the six-cylinder model is the same 3.7-liter V6 that motivates the Mazda CX-9 CUV. Doing duty in the mazda 6, the MZI engine is rated at 272 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque and Mazda is quick to point out that those numbers push the 6 to the head of the class among its Japanese competition (Honda Accord - 268 hp, Nissan Altima - 270 hp, and Toyota Camry - 268 hp). The engine is mated to a smooth six-speed Sport Shift automatic transmission driving the front wheels. The four-cylinder model gets the familiar MZR inline-four, bored out to 2.5-liters. In this application, it's rated at 170 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque and mated to either a six-speed manual, or a five-speed Sport automatic transmission sending power to the front wheels as well.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept
Fresh from its unveiling at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, this Lamborghini Sesto Elemento concept is the probably future replacement for the hugely successful, and entertaining, Murcielago.
This concepts name is derived from carbon’s placement within the periodic table, translating as “sixth element”. Clearly then, the name implies what to expect from this car, a lightweight fire-breathing monster that upon unveiling left everybody who saw it with just a little extra saliva swimming around their mouths.
Power comes from the V10 currently used in the Gallardo, and gives you a not inconsiderable 562bhp under your foot with which to play with when the traffic lights go green. The car uses carbonfibre throughout and subsequently weighs in at only 999kg, to put that in persepective, the current Ferrari 458 comes in at 1380kg and the Gallardo tops the scales at a relatively elephant like 1569kg.
This lack of weight will mean the car is expected to do the 0-60 in sub 2.5 seconds, which will place well ahead of its rivals, and topping out at somewhere over 200mph.
Whether the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento will ever make production is uncertain, carbon fibre construction is still incredibly expensive to produce, and with this car making use of the material for everything from its main body, crash zones and wheels to its suspension and steering, there is no doubt any final product, if using this much carbon fibre, will have a huge price tag hanging off of it when its sat in the showroom.
For buyers where money doesn’t matter that’s not an issue, but these cars usually sell to averagely wealthy individuals rather than mega multi millionaires, and a massive price tag would see sales of the car held back, so its probable, that if it is ever produced, it will be a limited run, making it exclusive, more desirable, and therefore certain to sell the limited numbers built.
We certainly hope they make it, this Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is one of the best looking and most exciting cars to come out of the Paris Motor Show, and producing something so special for its buyers would ensure Lamborghini hangs on to its legendary status for many years to come.

Electric car cheaper than ????$
A company from California it is very proud because of the new concept: an ecological car, in electric or hybrid version , cheaper than 30.000$. The cars were built in Aptera and the series models will be sold this year, first in the full-electric version and after that in hybrid version.
576itwjrxd.jpg
The full-electric car has an autonomy of 120 miles and can be charged at any plug in a few hours. The hybrid version consumes just 0,784 liters of combustible at 100 km walked, being equipped with a generator that runs on benzine and an electric engine.
Both versions are equipped with safety add-ons: zones of frontal deformation, steel for sideways and airbags for the driver and passengers.
The car runs only on three wheels and it has enough space for 2 adults and one child. The chair in the back, for the child, can be extracted if you want more space for sportive equipment or some bags from shopping.

Pontiac – A Small Tribute To An Icon
Pontiac, one of the most successful muscle car brands ever, has finally bitten the dust. General Motors, after watching Pontiac’s market share and profitability drain away over the last few decades decided last year that the brand was to finish, and one year later, its finally happened.
Pontiac came into being way back in 1926, and through the following years gradually built its iconic cars in to the epitome of everything a muscle car should be. Pontiac was responsible for several of the most memorable, and successful, muscle cars ever made, including the GTP, the Bonneville and of course the Firebird TransAm, made famous throughout the World by Burt Reynolds 1970′s movie Smoky and the Bandit.
Pontiac’s sales hit their peak way back in the 1960′s reaching almost 1 million sales in 1968, however those days were never to be seen again and over the following decades sales showed a continued decline and finally Pontiac was put out of its misery by GM after its much publicised financial meltdown and subsequent bailout.
Here though, we want to celebrate some of Pontiac’s finer moments, so here are a few of Pontiac’s best ever cars.
Pontiac Star Chief Convertible
Pontiac Star Chief Convertible
A great looking 1950′s classic, the Pontiac Star Chief was one of Pontiac’s finer moments during its ascendancy, ever reliable and blessed with fantastic looks, the Star Chief was much sort after, and with a usefully powerful V8, the car never lack pace.
Pontiac Bonneville 1967
Pontiac Bonneville 1967
The Pontiac Bonneville was one of the longest running models ever, starting from 1957 all the way through to 2005. In hindsight Pontiac should probably have left the name for the great models of the 50′s and 60′s and then stopped using it, the cars baring the Bonneville name gradually got less desirable, and less attractive as the decades rolled on, generally the models of the 80′s onwards are best (and easily) forgotten, but the early examples will stay in the history of motoring as fine examples of cars of their time.
Pontiac GTO - The Judge
Pontiac GTO - The Judge
The GTO was one of the most striking cars to appear from the Pontiac stable. Blessed with powerful engines and styling to ensure you get noticed, the car was a major success. The model above is “The Judge”, a special version of the GTO released during the cars second generation era, and boasting greatly increased power, uprated handling components, and some not so subtle styling tweaks in the form of hood air scoops and tail spoilers. A classic, and much sort after, the GTO in all its forms remains one of the best looking cars to ever be produced.
Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am
Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am
Finally the Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am, this car more or less needs no introduction to anybody born in the early 70′s or before, its presence in the Smokey and the Bandit movie did a fair job of stealing the lime light from Burt Reynolds, and some would say the car overshadowed his performance and was the real star of the movie. Classic lines, awesome engines and the famous T-Top make this car one to remember and one that will always be towards the top of any muscle car list.
So there you have it, a few examples of what made Pontiac such a great car maker and a success for many decades before biting the dust, and while there will be no more cars produced with the iconic Pontiac name, its history and automotive successes will never be forgotten, RIP Pontiac.

Jaguar C-X75 Electric car
Well, Jaguar have been busy. Above is the Jaguar C-X75 Electric Concept Car, we http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifthink you’ll agree, it looks absolutely great doesnt it? Jaguar claims this carhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif has the potential to go 560 miles on a single charged, and reach a top speed of around 200mph, not bad for a plug-in.
The car is only a jaguar concept, and there are no plans, at least that we know of, to put it into production, it was produced simply to celebrate Jaguars 75th anniversary of the companies existence.
Currently the car is on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show and is proving a hit, not least for its impressive figures for range and speed, but also because it looks totally delicious, we find it hard to believe there would be anyone who wouldn’t like how this car looks.
The car has four wheel drive, and can run on electric only for around 65 miles on a domestic charge lasting around 6 hours, but by using a pair of tiny gas turbines to provide additional energy whilst driving, the range extends to a much more useful 560 miles.
Great looks, green credentials, and a real world level of range, this car is a clear indication of the future, in this guise it will probably never be built, however the turbine technology used is remarkable, and there can be no doubt this is going to work its way into road going vehicles in the not too distant future.

Vilner updates Smart Fortwo
The 2011 Smart Fortwo, despite all its trying, is a car that needs all the help it can get. True, a big part of the car's problem is that it just doesn't make very much sense for the American market. That said, it's underpowered, uninspiring to drive, terrifying on the highway, and not particularly efficient, given its size. It also features one of the worst transmissions in motoring.
Enter Vilner, a Bulgarian custom shop that has tried with some success to make the car just a little more appealing. Built for a Bulgarian businessman, the Vilner Smart Fortwo employs a design scheme the company has dubbed "square style."
Inside and outside the car gets a square motif, which translates nicely into a completely redone interior featuring quilted upholstery. Outside, the car gets loud, oversize orange wheels and serious amounts of chrome. While Vilner takes the styling of the Smart to a new, supercar-aping level, the go bits have been left alone. Despite the lack of power adders, Vilner's efforts have gone a long way to making the Fortwo a bit more appealing. Read the full press release and check out two videos after the jump.

Report: Toyota and Subaru to unveil production sport coupes in Tokyo?
The wait is over... almost. According to a report from Inside Line that jives with what we've been hearing ourselves, Toyota (or Scion, or both) and Subaru are set to use the Tokyo Motor Show to jointly unveil the hotly anticipated rear-wheel-drive sport coupes that they have been working on together since what seems like the beginning of time.
Yes, that means we need to sit back and keep waiting until December, but at least it's some sort of real real date to mark on the calendar, right? Until then, you'll just have to be content with what is sure to be an endless series of spy shots and leaked information on the affordable sportscar duo.
Inside Line also offers something of a timetable for production, saying that the Scion FR-S will hit American shores sometime in 2012 (rather nebulous, no?) while the unnamed Subaru version will begin production in the spring of the same year.

Volkswagen Touran MPV
The Volkswagen Touran (Typ 1T) is a compact MPV based on a vertically-stretched fifth generation Volkswagen Golf Mk5, and sold in Europe and other select markets. It was launched in 2003 to fill a gap in Volkswagen's model lineup, below the Sharan large MPV.2012 Ford Focus
The vehicle was originally delivered in five- or seven-seat versions, but the five seat version is no longer available in some markets. It can be considered an extended version of the Golf Plus, since their front ends are similar in size, while the Touran's rear overhang is 200 mm (7.87 in) longer (and therefore a seven-seater, while the Golf Plus is a five-seater). In some regions, such as Japan, the car is called Golf Touran.
The name 'Touran' derives from the combination of 'Tour' and 'Sharan', the bigger MPV by VW. Despite the similarity of their names, the Touran is not related to the North American-market Volkswagen Routan.

TinTek offers the full chrome treatment in a vinyl wrap video
Generally speaking, we're more into the vinyl wraps than the chrome treatment. That's because most vinyl wraps give a car a nice matte finish that contrasts nicely with the glossiness of your standard factory offering, while your average full-body chrome treatment is – more often than not – little more than an eyesore. This latest innovation from the Czech Republic, however, combines the two.
As you can see from the video after the jump, TinTek has developed a chrome-finish vinyl wrap for the full "Dubai'd out" approach, applied for demonstration to an Audi TT and a Chevrolet Camaro. While a vinyl wrap has its own costs and intricate application process, it's surely far more cost-effective than chrome-dipping individual body panels. And while it may not be our proverbial cup of tea, who are we to stand in the way of progress, however questionable the result.

Exclusive: Amazing Scion FR-S Soapbox car ready to roll in Red Bull race this weekend
Remember the good old days when you and your dad spent countless hours in a dimly-lit garage to piece together an old ramshackle Soapbox Derby car for an upcoming downhill race? It probably was constructed out of ancient materials, rocked wagon wheels and had a cable brake that may or may not have stopped you before kissing something solid. Well, my friends, just like the rapture of tomorrow, those days are over.
Scion FR-S Soapbox Derby CarRenowned concept car builder Five:Axis is ready to throw down with a truly outstanding build for an upcoming Soapbox Derby. Being put together by Red Bull, this ain't your regular Soapbox Derby, and this certainly ain't your average backyard special. This is a custom one-off fiberglass micro-body based on the super stylish Scion FR-S Concept unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April. Since Five:Axis is well intertwined with Toyota, Lexus and Scion, it looks like they got some design studio CAD files to design the shell and the same slinky red metallic paint that the FR-S was wearing for its first stage appearance.
Think the underpinnings are still '50s Soapbox technology? You couldn't be further off because the custom aluminum space frame features a TEIN coilover suspension and Wilwood disc brakes. But all that technology isn't going to be worth jack if there isn't a ringer behind the wheel. The Five:Axis Scion FR-S will be piloted by none other than Dai Yoshihara, the Formula D drifter who slides the Falken Tire Nissan 240SX. Dai knows a thing or two about grip as well since he also competes in the Redline Time Attack Tuner Car Championship in an imported Civic Type R.
However, at this point we're not sure what part of Dai's expertise is really applicable for the upcoming Redbull Soapbox derby race. The only race on the calendar in the U.S. this year, it's slated to be held tomorrow, May 21 at 5th & Grand in downtown LA and promises to be nothing like what you might envision a traditional Soapbox derby to be. There are sharp 90-degree turns, NASCAR-style banks and myriad of sweet jumps. Although it appears the Five:Axis build will hold together during the abuse, we are not sure that Dai's run will be crash or injury free.

BMW 328 Hommage unveiled to celebrate 75th anniversary of original
Pop quiz time: What vehicle holds the highest average speed on the famed Mille Miglia circuit? A BMW 328. Their average speed was 103 miles per hour, and it was set way back in 1940. That car, the BMW 328, is a legend in the automaker's halls, and was named one of the 25 greatest cars of the century. This year marks the 328's 75th birthday, so BMW has prepared a unique concept car to pay tribute to one of its own iconic vehicles.
Dubbed the BMW 328 Hommage, this ultra-lightweight sports car was built to mirror the principles used to create the original 328. The 328 Hommage weighs in at a svelte 1,720 pounds, accomplished through the use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. While CFRP wasn't exactly around in the 30's and 40's, BMW engineers of that era kept the 328 light through the use of aluminum and magnesium. Both cars are cut from a similar cloth to achieve a lightweight end result, even if the methods to get there are very different.
Many design elements are shared between both cars. The original 328 was one of the earliest BMW vehicles to show off the now familiar kidney grilles. Those grilles nearly jump off the face of the 328 Hommage. Out back, the wide-set taillamps help close off the wide stance that runs the length of both versions.
BMW casually mentions that the 328 Hommage is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. Yet, we have no word on any potential output figures or what type of transmission it might be connected to. Of course, BMW fans might remember that the automaker built a similar concept a few years ago. It was called the Mille Miglia Concept Coupe. Stunning at the time, the 328 Hommage ups the wow factor several notches. Dive into the gorgeous photos in the gallery below, and click past the jump for the full press release.

TRW designs roof-mounted airbag
Is your steering wheel looking a little fat? There are a number of reasons why steering wheels have beefed up over the years, but one of the biggest reasons is because of airbags. Inflatable restraint system manufacturer TRW is looking at ways to change that, and it may have a whole new type of airbag ready to go.
Rather than having the airbag deploy from behind the steering wheel, TRW has created a system in which the airbag comes down from the roof. This opens up a whole new world of automotive design when it comes to the interior space directly in front of the driver and passenger. Dashboards and steering wheels could become far more interesting than they are now.
You would expect a system like this to be far off, but TRW has been working closely with an un-named European automaker. Said automaker has just awarded TRW a production contract, which means roof-mounted airbags could arrive sooner than you think.

7th-generation Camry coming this fall, Prius expected to take top sales spot
The current Toyota Camry has been carrying the mid-size sedan torch since 2006, so it's high time for a remake. According to WardsAuto.com, Toyota is busily prepping the next-generation car, and it could be here by the fall.
The Japanese automaker has been seeing increased pressure from the latest offerings coming out of Korea and the United States, and now it's time to update its own high-volume money maker. While Toyota sold 327,084 Camrys in 2010 – still at the very front of the midsize family sedan class – that figure represents the lowest sales total for the vehicle since 1994.
Somewhat interestingly, though, Toyota apparently sees the Prius hybrid range taking over for the Camry as Toyota's best-selling model. Time, as they say, will tell.

Senate passes bill recognizing 100th anniversary of Indy 500
Americans began racing cars just as soon as they started to appear on our streets, as evidenced by the fact that the Indianapolis 500 has been going strong for 100 years. The U.S. Senate wanted to tip its collective hat to commemorate that momentous occasion, so our senators decided to pass a resolution officially recognizing the race for its longevity. And since it doesn't cost anything to recognize a date, the resolution was passed unanimously.
In other interesting Indianapolis 500 news, the event's 100-year history also coincides with the 100-year anniversary of Chevrolet. The company and the race are so intertwined that Arthur Chevrolet, who's brother Louis founded the Bowtie Brand, ran the very first Indianapolis 500. Louis actually ran the race himself in 1915 and 1919, while another brother Gaston took first place in 1920. The 2011 Camaro Convertible will fittingly serve as the pace car for this year's event.

2011 BMW X6
Based very closely on the popular X6 Concept, BMW first launched the X6 coupe-crossover for the 2009 model year, calling it a "Sport Activity Coupe." Along with the wild exterior comes an all-new twin-turbo V8 that will find its way into other new BMWs in the coming years.

BMW X1 xDrive23d SE Specifications And Pricing
At the forefront of many a mind at this precise moment will be the word ‘why?' Possibly prefaced by ‘Dear' and ‘God'. The X1 is the latest in an increasingly long line of confused and confusing BMW products. Much like the 5-Series GT, it demands a double take, just to work out exactly what you're looking at. Do you need glasses? Or does someone at BMW need medicating?
The whole soft-roader/crossover idea is hard to get your head around. Neither as good at being a car as a car, nor anywhere near as capable of SUV-ness as a proper SUV. It's a lifestyle statement, and that's a dubious concept whatever you're buying into: a novelty ringtone, a ‘wacky' hair cut. If something doesn't exist because it needs to, chances are it makes you look like a bit of tool. And the existence of a compact pseudo-SUV is a tough case to make.

Porsche Panamera Geneva Motor Show
At last year's Geneva Motor Show, Porsche stole the show with the unveiling of the 918 Spyder. For 2011, Porsche has taken the wraps off another gas-electric hybrid in Switzerland, but in a decidedly less sexy shape.
The 2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid is just the latest alt-powered vehicle from Porsche, joining the Cayenne Hybrid and the aforementioned 918 that's expected to hit the market late next year. Power is supplied by VAG's supercharged 3.0-liter V6 putting out 333 horsepower, with another 47 ponies delivered via an electric motor. Equipped with the eight-speed automatic gearbox, Porsche claims a 0-60 mph run of six seconds flat with a top speed of 168 mph, all while returning an average of around 34 mpg.
The Panamera Hybrid will be hitting U.S. shores later this year with a price tag of $95,000, and you get can all the pertinent details in the press blast after the break.

2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid Review, Specs, & Pictures
A year after it unveiled its Cayenne S Hybrid, Porsche is once again infiltrating a new segment of the marketplace with its hybrid technology with the release of the Panamera S Hybrid, a car that promises the performance of a V-8 with the economy of a V-6. Porsche hopes with the addition of the Hybrid as the sixth member in the model range, the attractiveness of the Panamera will be boosted even further despite already selling nearly 30,000 vehicles in approximately 15 months.

Mazda 787B restored, returning to Le Mans for 20th anniversary of win
In 1991, Mazda became the first and to this day only Japanese automaker to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans using the 787B you see above. It was also the first and only rotary-powered car to ever win the grueling French endurance race.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of that Le Mans win, and to celebrate that victory, Mazda has restored the original winning 787B and been invited by the event organizers to drive it on the Circuit de la Sarth just a few hours before this year's 79th running of the race.
The 787B is powered by a four-rotor rotary engine producing 700 horsepower, though it was said to be capable of a maximum power output of 900 hp. Even after 20 years, it could probably keep up with today's crop of Le Mans prototype cars.
We don't know yet who will be driving the 787B on June 11, but the man who drove the car across the finish line 20 years earlier, Johnny Herbert, will be on hand, and we're sure he'd be happy to help out if asked.
Check out the amazing gallery of the Mazda team testing the 787B after its recent restoration, and follow the jump for two amazing audio clips of its engine.

2012 Ford Focus
One of Alan Mulally’s objectives since becoming CEO at Ford in 2006 has been to develop products on a worldwide basis. This sounds familiar, if only because another Ford CEO, Alex Trotman, did the same thing back in the 1990s. This approach resulted in products such as the Contour (not a rip-roaring success) and the original Focus (which was).
In between the Focus going on sale in the U.S. as a 2000 model and Mulally taking over, product development in Europe and North America took off in different directions. Hence, Europe was rewarded with a heavily reworked second-generation Focus in 2004. The next year, North America got a warmed-over version of the first-gen Focus sedan and hatchback.

Mazda2 specs
The Mazda2 was once on top of my consideration when I was getting my 3rd car. It’s sub-compact, not too heavy on the gas and the pocket, yet still has that slight semblance of its sporty sibling, the Mazda 3. It was up there on my list together with the Honda Jazz, Honda City and Chevrolet Cruze (though not all are in the same category).

X3, Take Two: New Styling, Engines Put BMW Back in the Ring
BMW helped invent the compact luxury SUV category with its X3, but that doesn’t win it any gold stars. Its revamped 2011 BMW X3 enters a market now thick with similar offerings, and it will take a major effort on Munich’s part to get its new crossover back to the head of the pack.
That effort begins with a choice of revised engines. Base level 2011 X3s will roll out of BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant at the end of 2010 with a naturally-aspirated 'N52' 3.0-liter I-6 producing 240 horsepower. The current X3 makes 260 horsepower from its inline six, but the new model is estimated to hit 60 mph at 6.7 seconds, roughly a half-second quicker than the outgoing model. Those with lead feet should head for the xDrive35i, which is powered by BMW's direct-injection 3.0-liter turbo I-6. The engine features 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from 0-60 mph will take just 5.5 seconds, according to BMW. Opt for the sport package, and you can push the X3 to a 150 mph top speed.

Audi R8R
The Audi R8R was a Le Mans Prototype built by Audi for the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans, and a predecessor to the dominant Audi R8 which debuted in 2000. It was raced alongside the British built closed-cockpit Audi R8C.
The R8R project began in 1997, when Audi R8 began research into entering the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The first prototype was displayed in 1998, showing an open cockpit car which featured many Audi styling cues, yet lacked some of the practical necessities for sports car racing. The car, designed by Tony Southgate and built by Dallara, featured an Audi 3.6 litre twin-turbo V8 engine. Styling features included a large group of aerodynamic vents in the nose, as well as high sidepods which featured NACA ducts on their tops to feed the turbochargers. A large vent on the side also allowed air out from the front wheel well.

At the time of Audi's announcement of their intention to enter the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998, the initial plan was to enter an open-cockpit prototype, known as the Audi R8R. However, following the dominant performance of GT1-class cars in the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) modified classification rules in order to create a new class known as LMGTP, which would be closed-cockpit prototypes, realistically replacing the powerful, purpose-built GT1 cars.

Mercedes-Benz CLS550 2012
Outrageous proportions: a long bonnet, narrow-look windows with frameless side windows, dynamic roof sweeping back at an angle towards the rear. In 2003 the four-door Coupé was born: and the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class immediately established itself as a new style icon. The proportions have stayed the same - and yet everything is different: the second generation of this design trendsetter has adopted a completely new look.
What immediately strikes the eye is the innovative front design, which is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Visually, the radiator grille is not integrated into the bonnet but is formed separately. This highlights the long, sporty bonnet even further. The grille is dominated by the large central star, which underlines the car's relationship to the other coupés of the brand and strengthens the brand identity. The large, elongated dark air inlets with black grilles also add to the vehicle's athletic appearance.
Another distinguishing feature comes in the form of the LED High Performance headlamps, which are the world's first to offer all of the regular dynamic light functions using LED technology. This innovation boasts an impressive design - inside it is divided into three arrow-shaped layers from top to bottom: the upper layer contains an LED indicator, beneath which is a striking LED side light offering LED low beam functions. The side light can also be seen when the dipped beam function is switched on, thereby creating a novel and separate night-time design as a distinctive look. The lowest level of the headlamp houses the main beam and nightview functions. A total of 71 LEDs not only provide an unmistakable appearance, but also offer a significantly enhanced view of the road compared with previous systems.

Mazda MX-5 GT 2011
Mazda is set to challenge Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus, and BMW on the race track with its lightweight Mazda MX-5 GT entry in the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship 2011.
Weighing in at just 850kg, the Mazda MX-5 GT race car will accelerate from 0-to-60mph in just three seconds and hit a top speed of 160mph. The build of the car has been an engineering challenge to get the weight as low as possible using Mazda's gram strategy as the inspiration. Jota Sport examined every nut and bolt to reduce component weight and then match the power to the weight to give the lightest and most powerful MX-5 ever built.
An important aspect of the build was to ensure the Mazda MX-5 still remains true to its roots: great handling, huge fun-to-drive and the ability to challenge bigger more powerful competition, but at an affordable cost. The Mazda GT car ticks all those boxes and is now set to demonstrate its challenger spirit on the track.
Jota Sport, the race engineering team that will run the cars in the 2011 series, took 400 hours to build the shell to a specification that ensured it was 17 times stronger than required by the FIA. During the development they faced a number of engineering challenges such as suspension adjustments, integrating the six speed sequential gearbox, and lowering the engine. Weight saving strategies such as, the removal of interior components, reducing component weight and dipping the shell in acid lost 15kg from the MX-5 race car.
